Being a dancer, life brings to me different platforms and people to meet and greet through my performances. And every time I get a chance to establish or present my dance art, I owe each moment to the Almighty.

Being part of the Uttar Poorva Nrityotsav 2018, organised by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi (autonomous body of the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India) from 28th – 30th September, 2018 was a wonderful experience. Firstly, because it was a platform specifically for the artistes from northeast India and this 3 days dance festival not only brought forward the region based dances, but artistes practicing the different dance forms too.

I’m a professional and full time Kathak danseuse and creative choreographer and to be very honest, it is not very easy to lead ahead with dance arts which are not region based. There are many pros and cons associated with it but, representing my State Assam from childhood in many national and international stages I could never convince myself to change my dance art form for sustainability.

Festivals like the Uttar Poorva Nrityotsav creates platform for practitioners from the far northeast India amidst the mainland India. More good was that, the festival joined and introduced the dancers to each others, recreating a network for more such purposes ahead. I thoroughly loved being part of it and hope that there lay many such opportunities ahead for dance practitioners who practicing other art forms which are not region centric.
